Fifty four year old Limeburners Creek oyster farmer Len Girdler has been in the industry for 25 years. His is the oldest oyster growers shed in the creek, dating back over 100 years. It contains timbers that were hewn with an adze. Len says that modern plastics have been a boon to the industry, allowing the mass production of trays, drums and netting and other items used in oyster production. Each working day, Len, who lives in Port Macquarie, crosses the river on the Settlement Point ferry on the way to his lease.
